Four years ago, Aerial Surveys was awarded 6 out of 10 regions of New Zealand for LiDAR capture. Prior to this Aerial Surveys also captured the Gisborne region. Those 7 regions total close to 120,000 sqkm. This initiative was led by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) and jointly funded by the regional councils and the provincial growth fund (PGF). The result would be a vastly improved elevation model for New Zealand available to all New Zealanders.
Aerial Surveys along with two other aerial survey organizations have captured the majority of New Zealand with LiDAR, which is no small achievement. Most people won't be aware of the challenges and risks that Aerial Surveyors in New Zealand take on to deliver a project of this scale, in challenging weather and terrain. To all the Aerial Surveyors from the three survey companies, you should be hugely proud of your efforts. To the team at Aerial Surveys thank you, for the long days flying, processing, Checking and pushing to meet deadlines. To the teams at the councils and LINZ thank you for your patience and support. We've all certainly learnt a lot along the way. Now what's the next challenge we need to tackle?
On scale no other Aerial Surveyor has captured and processed more LiDAR in New Zealand. If you're looking for information on LiDAR, please reach out and we will be more than happy to help.
